Master Chan Kim Man – A pragmatic Ving Tsun instructor who has devoted and dedicated his life to promote and develop Ving Tsun.
Ving Tsun is one of the most famous martial arts among the profound and traditional Chinese Martial Arts. Its long history can be traced back to its founder – Yim Wing Chun. Throughout years of succession and development for summing up, we may say it was originated from Yim Wing Chun, took roots in the hands of Leung Jan and blossomed under Yip Man. Late Grandmaster Wong Shun Leung was one of the best contemporary Ving Tsun practitioners in his generation., and One of his beloved disciples, Master Chan Kim Man succeeds his faiths and Ving Tsun fighting techniques.
When Master Chan Kim Man was young, he was in ill health, especially during the seasonal change of weather. When he still underwent education stage, he tried different kind of sports to strengthen his body. After his first attempt in learning martial arts in 1974 (age 17), he has decided to devote his life long interest upon it. Master Chan had learnt Hung Kuen and Chu style Mantis in a short period of time but only Ving Tsun caught his heart.
In 1978, a friend of Master Chan recommended him to learn Ving Tsun from “King of talking hands”, the late Grandmaster Wong Shun Leung, who was also the instructor and sihing of the late Bruce Lee. Ving Tsun training has strengthened Master Chan’s health and fitness. With the intensive guidance from his sihings, including the late Master Yuen Yim Keung, Master Chan has begun to master his Ving Tsun skills. For the period from 1979 to 1982, he was awarded with prizes of excellence in different martial arts competitions, and many people were impressed by his Ving Tsun fighting techniques.
In the early 1980s, Master Chan Kim Man has been promoted by the late Wong Shun Leung as the assistant instructor in Wong’s Ving Tsun Kwoon. In 1996, the Martial Art Training Ministry of China National Sport Administration (now known as General Adminsitration of Sports) had invited the late Grandmaster Wong Shun Leung to organize Ving Tsun training class in Beijing with Master Chan serving as Assistant.
In order to promote Ving Tsun, Master Chan had assisted son and wife of the late Wong Shun Leung to provide training in WSL Scientifc Ving Tsun classes from the middle of 1996 til March 2010 in VTAA since WSL passed away sadly in 1997.
Master Chan has used his spare and leisure time to teach Scientific Ving Tsun in Panyu Distrcit, Shigang Dong Village, Shiji Town, Guangzhou City since 1995 to fulfill the unfulfilled wish of the late Master Wong Shun Leung to spread Ving Tsun back to its motherland. And also in Western District Community Centre, Third Street, Mid-level West, Hong Kong since April 2010.
